Take a look - some of the best used SUVs have gone mostly overlooked or forgotten. A year later, Volkswagen released another troublesome model with the Jetta. With over a hundred complaints , the Jetta is yet another year used car buyers should avoid. Unexpectedly, the most common problem with the Jetta is its faulty stereo system.
Many drivers reported that the car stereo simply died and did not work anymore. Unhappy Jetta owners also cited the fuel pump failure as one of the major problems of the model.
According to the complaints, the Jetta suffered from performance issues such as stalling, faulty check engine lights, and poor acceleration.
It was found out that the source of the problem was the faulty high-pressure fuel pump. This particular engine problem can cost you a grand for repairs and manifests itself at around 68k miles.
The fuel system is another trouble spot for the Jetta. Similar to the aforementioned fuel pump failure, the Jetta flashed wrong error lights and suffered from performance problems. A lot is going on with the Volkswagen Jetta - impressive fuel economy, comfortable ride, effortless acceleration, and easy-to-use controls. However, in terms of reliability, it fell short. It must be noted, however, that Volkswagen AG has entered into talks with worker unions and employees regarding the lay off of thousands of employees to free up funds for investment into electric vehicles EV.
The news reports did not mention which locations in the world would be affected by these lay offs. Volkswagen, or its parent company Volkswagen AG, has never been identified to be an American company. It has always been a German company. It's always had nice enough styling, giving us plenty of Germanic simplicity and sophistication.
But for all of its devoted fans, there are plenty of people who hate it. Just can't stand it. We've always been fairly impartial towards the Jetta, but the guys at Regular Car Reviews actually claim the car is their enemy.
They get behind the wheel of the Wolfsburg Edition made in Mexico and explain their reasons for such hatred. Anyone else despise a car at this level besides the Prius and Leaf?
It was originally just a Golf with a trunk. January I just recently found a way to determine whether a VW is German made or if it is made in Mexico. If it starts with a W then it was built in Germany, if it starts with a 3 then it was assembled in Mexico.
I have owned several VW's and will continue to buy them as they are great cars. They may be made elsewhere other than Germany, but I do not believe IMO that impacts the quality as they are still held to VW's standards for quality and performance regardless of where it rolls off the line at.
Traded out of Honda's that I have drove for years and this car is equal in fit and finish and quality. Need some time to report on dependability but talked to relatives who have Jetta TDI Auto like I have and they have had not problem at all and owned car for under a year.
I have read many Consumer Reports reviews and many were on their 4th Volkswagen and had Jetta's before.
