Post by mm NE Iowa » Thu Dec 18, pm Greg, After breaking two pipe taps in two different pieces of stainless within an hour, I have always used the correct size tapered reamer. This eliminated my breakage problem when tapping stainless. Are you sure you are using the correct sized reamer?

Thread Tools Show Printable Version. I'm in the process of making the nut 26 to hold the Gits Oiler I realize that the pipe thread is tapered but the drills I have are not. I have tapped the hole as deep as I dare go as the well lubed tap is getting extremely tight and I do not want to snap it off. At this point I can see that I have 9 threads cut into the nut.

Should I be looking to get more of the Gits threads to engage in the nut. At this point I did not use any teflon tape or anything, just a drop of cutting oil on the threads before trying to tighten the Gits.

Is this a reasonable pipe thread engagement? Thanks, DJ. Attached Thumbnails. This probably isn't a big help to you if you don't have one , but I really prefer using a tapered reamer in the hole before pipe tapping.
